Catholic Education Office

1986 - 1989

This George Temple Poole award winning project was for a large scale conservation, restoration and recycling of the largely disused Home of the Good Shepherd Convent in West Leederville. The brief was to adapt the former convent, school, dormitories and commercial laundry into the centralised administrative offices and conference centre for Catholic Education in Western Australia.

The project incorporated office accommodation, staff facilities, seminar and training facilities, teaching rooms, and book and audio visual libraries. The historic Chapel and gardens were also restored and are used by the wider community. The balance of the site was subdivided into residential lots to finance the project. The project has been credited with helping provide a symbolic and functional focus for what was a disparate group of organisations.
