PLC Sports and Recreation

Completed 2010

An imperative of the school’s masterplan is that future development must take place without the loss of existing sports grounds or any reduction in open space. For this reason the Sports and Recreation Centre was built above the school’s existing 25m pool, providing year round cover for the upgraded pool facility with no loss of open space.

The long axis of the building faces east, overlooking tennis courts with river glimpses and the large windows to this elevation are protected with vertical polycarbonate louvres in the Blackwatch school colours. It was constructed on time and on budget delivering a needed facility that is used by the school and the public.

In 2012, a new concrete deck was built adjoining the Sports and Recreation Centre to allow the existing playing courts to be raised up one level. Covered space for parking up to 100 cars was created underneath the deck. The level change has also allowed for the playing courts to have a better relationship with the adjoining Junior School building.
